LISTENER PREPARATION
PREPARATION PROGRAMMES
To prepare Listeners to come on watch with us, we offer all new recruits a comprehensive preparation programme that aims to build the knowledge, skills, understanding and confidence that they need to perform the listening role in the way the Lord has commissioned us to perform it.
The training is conducted on ZOOM - so everyone can participate from the comfort of their own home.
Our LISTENER PREPARATION PROGRAMME comprises eight modules conducted over eight weeks at times that are convenient to you.
Each module is undertaken with an experienced trainer, and takes around 2 hours to complete. The modules involve a mix of guidance, discussion, activities, skills practice and role plays. Modules are usually conducted in pairs to facilitate the sharing of ideas, role play and peer feedback.
Each Listener Preparation Programmes comprises the following three key elements:
WHAT ARE WE ALL ABOUT?
Three introductory modules help you to understand the vision, mission and core values of New Kapporet, to listen and respond effectively and compassionately in the presence of the Lord, and to encourage callers to lay their problems at the Lord's feet in prayer.
WHERE DO WE NEED TO EXERCISE SKILL OR JUDGEMENT?
A series of four experience-based modules help you to learn how to apply the technology we use to run the Ministry, to develop the judgement you will need to manage difficult calls (such as when safeguarding is involved), and to practise the knowledge and skills required to be an effective Listener.
GOING LIVE WITH CONFIDENCE
In Module 8 you will have your first experience of taking calls , all the time being fully supported by your trainer (now mentor).
Each call is followed by a debriefing session, in which the call is reviewed and alternative approaches explored.
You can repeat this module, if you want further opportunity to build your skills and confidence in responding to different kinds of situations.
Your mentoring will continue until you feel really comfortable with your new role.
